When it comes to bathrooms, I suppose that we all have one thing in common – all of us love to have their bathrooms clean and shiny. But, in reality, the fact is that rust stains make it difficult to keep your toilet shiny white.
The rust stains are results of the water’s content. The more a toilet bowl is used, the bigger the chance is that red-brown rust stains will appear in it. And, of course, the longer the rust stains stay in the toilet bowl, the harder it will be for you to remove them.
Fortunately, there are a few ways to remove rust stains from toilet bowl completely – and guess what? All of them use only natural ingredients.
After reading this article, you will get some new ideas about how to remove rust stains and you will not need to buy those expensive products full of harmful chemicals.
How to remove rust stains from a toilet bowl naturally?
If you thought that bleach will clean and remove rust stains – do not bet it! Practice shows that, in fact, things are different. The bleach will just empower rust stains and make your problem even worse.
Also, some of those chemical products may do their job, but some others can cause you some problems. If your question is “Why?” the answer is simple – those products can scratch your toilet bowl and make it easier for rust stains to go deeper into the surface and thus make it harder for you to remove them.
Luckily, there are a few ways of doing this with some natural methods. They are cheaper and, what is more important, they are much safer for you.
So, in the next part of this article, I will give you a list of natural ways to remove the rust stains. And, what is more important, I will give you detailed instructions about how does it have to be done.
1. Use fresh lemon
One of the ways you can remove the stains is by simply using the ingredient which you can probably buy at every corner – fresh lemon. Yes, all you need is a lemon because it has a lot of natural acids so it can be of great help when it comes to removing the rust stains.
Here are the instructions on how to do this:
a. Make a lemon juice
Take your citrus juicer or some lemon squeezer and make a lemon juice. Use 2-4 lemons relative to a surface of rust stains you have in your toilet bowl.
b. Mix lemon and detergent
Mix your lemon juice with detergent so you can form the paste.
c. Pour it onto the rust stains
After making a paste, you should pour that mix into the toilet bowl directly on the part of it where you found the rust stains. It is important to leave it there for 20-30 minutes, so the paste can do its job.
d. Use brush to scrub the rust stains
For this part, you will need some brush. Use it to scrub the surface of the toilet bowl.
e. Flush
In the end, all you need to do is flush the water and after that, you will see a totally clean toilet bowl without the rust stains.
2. Use baking soda and vinegar
Probably, this is not the first time you see that those two products, when combined, make miracles when it comes to cleaning something. Well, rust stains are no exception – they can be removed with these two products.
a. Pour vinegar
Take one cup of vinegar and pour it into the toilet bowl. Try to pour it on every spot on the surface where you can see the rust stains. Leave it there for 60 seconds.
b. Add baking soda and vinegar again
Now, take one cup now loaded with baking soda. Sprinkle it into the toilet bowl. And then the important part of this method comes – add 2 cups of vinegar once again. It will make a chemical reaction which you should let be there for 10 minutes.
c. Do step 1 and step 2 once again
Without flushing, pour those two products into the toilet bowl once again. Use a toilet brush, if you need to swish it around the bowl. And let it sit there for about 30 minutes.
d. Use a brush and flush the water
After 30 minutes, you can take a brush and scrub the stains or some residues of them. In the end, you need to flush and watch the dirty parts of your toilet bowl disappear.
3. Use borax and vinegar
Borax is made of sodium tetraborate and, in the combination with vinegar, can give great results. This mix is strong and very effective. Let’s see how you can use borax – the multi-purpose cleaning substance.
a. Pour Borax into the bowl
Put ¼ of a cup of borax into a toilet bowl. You can swish it with a toilet brush.
b. Add vinegar
When borax is poured, you should add 1 cup of vinegar. That mixture should be in the toilet bowl for 20 minutes.
c. Scrub and flush
In the end, you should finish this process by scrubbing the toilet bowl with a brush. And after that, you should flush the water and watch the toilet bowl shine.
One more thing! If this does not help you remove rust stains – make a Borax paste by mixing a ½ cup of Borax and vinegar as much as you need to form a thick paste. It helps when the rust stains are very hard.
4. Put Coca Cola onto the surface with rust stains and watch them disappear
The Coca Cola is known as the favorite drink of many people. But it is also a very useful and economical product which can be used in removing the rust stains from the toilet bowl.
How to use it?
a. Drench the toilet bowl with coke
Just take one bottle of coke and put it in the toilet bowl. Try to pour it on every spot where rust stains are. Leave it there for 60 minutes.
b. Use a brush to scrub
Use some brush to remove those yellow-brown spots in the toilet bowl.
c. Flush the water
Wash-out the toilet bowl with the water and that`s it! Easy, isn`t it?
